Vote for Kaliya’s two SXSW Sessions in the Panel Picker!!! ← so we can be accepted to speak in March voting ends Sunday.

`1. Open Standards: The Super Power of Digital ID with Kaliya, Karyl and Evin all women leaders in SSI.

This panel touches on digital ID history and focuses on recently standardized W3C decentralized identifier spec and verifiable credentials data model to show how adoption of products using these standards are impacting all kinds of markets, from Web 2 to Web3 and beyond.

2. How We (the People) Can Be Bigger Than Big Tech solo talk by Kaliya

Civil society leaders have struggled to understand the power that open Internet protocols have in enabling a fairer and more open digital future. As big tech continues to enclose our digital selves in high walls and capture our personal data for their commercial goals, it is crucial that civil society, together with the bigger business and tech community, forms an effective strategy against digital colonization by leveraging the emerging open standards for digital identity and personal data. These standards have enormous potential to support new digital public good via an identity layer of the Internet. Kaliya will outline some of the key digital ID standards, share real world implementations and explain how they can be used strategically and collectively to be “Bigger” than Big Tech.

How Blockchain Technology and Self-Sovereign Identity Enables the New Normal of Remote Learning, Training and Working Md Sabbir Hossain

Self-sovereign identity (SSI), an identity model that recognizes that an individual should own and control their identity, is likely to gain increased adoption in the near term as a tool that makes distance learning, hiring, and remote work more efficient. SSI improves security and allows seamless integration across platforms.

Trinsic Builds Open Source Trust Registry Sponsored by eSSIF-Lab Trinsic

Driven by our motivation to make SSI more adoptable, we built the world’s first turn-key, open source trust registry solution. This work was sponsored by the European Self-Sovereign Identity Framework Lab (eSSIF-Lab), which is an EU consortium that provides funding for projects that build SSI open source tools. Any ecosystem provider can use the trust registry implementation to enable governance in their verifiable data ecosystem.

Is the EU Digital Identity Wallet an implementation of Self-Sovereign Identity? Innopay

The intention of the European Commission is to allow – or even force – acceptance in a wide range of sectors in the public and private domain and thereby ensure that identities are as wisely usable as possible (interoperability). The principle of consent will also be met, as it is already fulfilled with current eID solutions notified under eIDAS and other EU regulations, such as GDPR and PSD2. One of the explicit requirements of the proposal is selective disclosure, in line with GDPR’s rules on data minimalisation.
